South Philly starts at South Street, is bounded by the Delaware River to the east and south, and the Schuylkill River to the west. South Philly has four zip codes: 19145, 19146, 19147, and 19148. Each of these zip codes contains different neighborhoods within it. Today we will focus on neighborhoods in 19145 (Point Breeze), 19146 (Point Breeze and Graduate Hospital), 19147 (Queen Village and Bella Vista), and 19148 (East Passyunk).

Point Breeze

• Has an active CDC – Point Breeze Community Development Corporation
• Tariq Trotter, a.k.a. Black Thought, rapper with Grammy award winning hip-hop group The Roots, is from 23rd & Watkins
• Plenty of food options in walking distance with 4 or more stars on Yelp

Graduate Hospital

• Lots of festivals happen here:
  • Bloktoberfest, an epic celebration of beer, food, and music
  • Odunde Street Festival, one of the largest and most longstanding African-American street festivals in the nation
• Extremely pedestrian and biker friendly
  • Walkscore – 94/100
  • Bikescore – 98/100

Queen Village

• Fabric Row on 4th street – widely known for its proliferation of fabric shops and stores, but it also features some of the area’s top shopping and dining
• Get involved in the Queen Village Neighbors Association, a well-run nonprofit formed in 1969 to serve the area’s residents
• Reviewers on Yelp have lots of positive remarks for the restaurants in the area

Bella Vista

• Home to the delicious Italian Market
• Guess what? More good food options! South Philly, especially Bella Vista, is full of them
• Since 1992, neighbors have been improving their community through the Bella Vista Neighbors Association
• Bella Vista is Italian for “beautiful sight”

East Passyunk

• Honored with Food and Wine’s 10 Best Foodie Streets in America
• The East Passyunk Crossing Civic Association and Town Watch works to promote innovative growth in the neighborhood
• This is where you’ll find the famous Pat and Geno’s
• There is a Singing Fountain at the epicenter of East Passyunk life
