Camden County: Small Town Charm with Urban Advantages

Posted on Apr 28, 2017

At the top of 2017, this Philly-born brokerage tackled the next frontier: South Jersey. Taking root in Haddonfield in Camden County, we can see why so many Houwzer customers are falling in love with the East side of the Delaware.

Towns like Haddonfield, Collingswood, and Westmont truly embody the “best of both worlds” that many of us are looking for. See why:

Notes of positivity on a Collingswood wall in Camden CountyThe Community: If you want to go “where everybody knows your name,” there’s nowhere like South Jersey. Saturday farmers markets are more than a place to buy local produce, as locals settle down in lawn chairs to enjoy the live music and sunshine. With their very own Night Markets and parties like the annual May Fair, it seems like there’s always an occasion to come together.

Food + Drink: Philadelphia is one of the country’s great food cities, and luckily the apple didn’t fall far from the Walnut (or Chestnut) tree.

Restaurant Weeks are held several times a year, and you’ll even recognize some Philly favorites like IndeBlue, Sabrina’s Cafe, and Circles Thai. If you’re in the mood for something refreshing, visit the Pour House for live music, sip wine on the patio at Treno, or sample one of Collingswood’s many BYOBs.

Accessibility: Whether it’s for business or pleasure, getting into the city is surprisingly easy; these picturesque towns are all located within a ten minute drive from the Ben Franklin and/or Walt Whitman bridges. Our favorite option, however, is the PATCO Speedline. True to its name, this rapid transit line will get you to Center City Philadelphia in just 15 minutes.

Saddlers Woods Conservation in Camden CountyGreen Space: What better reason to move to Camden County? With over 500 acres of park space, the Collingswood park system has an abundance of bike paths, tennis courts, softball fields, picnic areas, gardens, and fishing piers. One hidden gem that we can’t get enough of? Westmont’s Saddler’s Woods Conservation, a 25-acre retreat reminiscent of the untouched forests that settlers first fell in love with.

Shopping: These three towns are connected by a cultural hub that you’ll come to know and love: Haddon Ave. More than 200 stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and art galleries line the street, but many are partial to vintage and consignment shops like Nifty Thrifties or Frügal Thrift & Vintage.

Family-Friendly: While Philadelphia is home to countless historic and cultural gems, the suburbs have just as much to offer families. On top of exemplary schools with 9 and and 10 point ratings on Zillow, Haddonfield was named one of NJ Families’ Top 10 Towns for Families in 2017.
